Thursday 13 v. 74: Good/Bad

Thirteen Good Things and Bad Things

1. The Good: I approved the proof for my new book. Two weeks until you can buy it!

2. The Bad: Right after I approved it, Jim pointed out a mistake. A stupid mistake. I read it 8 times, and didn't catch it, so maybe no one else will. Can't change it now. This is what I get for not spending $2000 to get it professionally edited.

3. The Good: We leave for Las Vegas on Friday

4. The Bad: There's a front coming through over the weekend, making it cold and rainy there. Even calling for snow next week. SNOW in VEGAS!

5. The Good: We have a free car rental, and we were going to drive to Death Valley to see the moving rocks on Racetrack Playa

6. The Bad: Said front is also causing rain in Death Valley. It seldom rains in Death Valley, but it's raining this weekend when we wanted to go. Rain = bad roads and no seeing the moving rocks (can't walk through the mud and leave our footprints.)

7. The Good: It's supposed to be nice in Valley of Fire State Park on Sunday, so we'll probably go there instead.

8. The Bad: I would rather go to Bryce Canyon, but said front will bring snow there. And rain to Zion National Park. Damn you weather!

9. The Good: I broke down and vacuumed the downstairs - it was awfully dirty!

10. The Bad: The upstairs still needs to be done. I'm making that Jim's job.

11. The Good: I have a job, when a lot of people don't.

12. The Bad: Right before, and right after a vacation, things always get more stupid and more idiotic. (Can you say re-org? Again?) PS: Never have an idea at work. They think they want you to have an idea, but they really don't.

13. The Good: Did I mention we're going to VEGAS? :) Always good to end on a good.

I'm sure you'll find something to do in Vegas while it's raining. ;)

Sorry about your book...you're right, I'm sure most will miss the mistake. Besides you can fix it on the second publishing.

You will always miss a mistake. There is one there that neither of you have seen. And never will.. :). It's some sort of writer's Murphy's Law...

Stay safe on your trip and Happy TT!

Always good to end with good.

Shame you can't go see those moving rocks. I didn't know there were moving rocks. Maybe it's good that you're going and not me?

Oh, I'm sorry about your book having a mistake. An editor I once heard at convention said that it takes an average of sixteen pairs of eyes to make a book free of errors. She says when she misses something she remembers the 16 eye rule and feels better.

I had an editor read over the manuscript to my book and it still had some mistakes. I started with 300 copies and kept getting 300 more, making changes and corrections each time.

I know what you mean about the Carrie Fisher looking like Liza Minneli Another reader said she looked like Margot Kidder. Everyone but Carrie herself. Were you able to see her legs?

Have fun in Vegas! I'd love to go but I've been informed that we never will :(

It's a certainty that the typo you miss in all your rereadings will stick out like a sore thumb to everyone else who sees it.

I so love L V!! And I've been there when it has snowed. Thing is, it doesn't last long in the city tho...the mountains to the west will take most of it!!

Yep, having a job is something to rejoice these days. To be sure.

Too bad about the typo in your book. I will find it. LOL [I always do.]

Zion is gorgeous even in the rain. Bryce is amazing with snow, just be very, very cautious of the roads. I'd still make the trip though: well worth it. I've been in both summer and winter and while hiking the hoodoos in the summer is hard to beat, the orange rocks with white on them are simply breathtaking.
