Thursday 13 v. 68 Cruise Ship Lingo

Thirteen Pieces of Cruise Ship Lingo

Do you know your starboard from your aft? :)

1. Always refer to your vessel as a ship not a boat.
2. The ship is always female. It's a "she" or a "her"
3. "Port" refers to the left side of the ship.
4. "Starboard" refers to the right side of the ship.
5. "Aft" refers to the rear or back of the ship.
6. "Bow" refers to the front of the ship.
7. A ship has decks not floors.
8. A ship has staterooms not rooms.
9. "Tender" is the vessel that you take to and from the shore when the ship is at anchor in a port.
10. The "bridge" is the place where the Captain and his crew steer the ship.
11. The "brig" is the ship's jail.
12. It is a "Purser's Desk" not an Information Desk or a Front Desk.
13. I can help you put this knowledge to work by helping you book a fun, cost-effective cruise! (Can I beg a little more?) Click on that big ad over there on the right to get to my Website.

Sounds like fun. Someday I'll need that lingo but I'll have to wait a few years I think.

Mornin' Carmen!!
Well, being a Navy wife, I knew all this. But for the life of me I don't understand why they don't just call 'em by 'normal' stuff. Like, floor for deck...door instead of hatch...good grief.

Happy Thursday.

Interesting, I've never been on a cruise but it is on my list.

What an experience! You'll have to blog about the places you visit. Happy TT!

LOL! You are just one big walking talking advertisement!!!! I've always WANTED to take a cruise - but I've never had the pocket change to put towards one. And it's not looking likely anytime s00n, because our economy SUCKS! But you just keep teachin' me everything I need to know - cuz SOMEday (when ever my ship rolls in) I'm gonna book a cruise! And I PROMISE it will be through YOU! Just cuz you're so cute! And enthusiastic. And the most traveled person I know! And here's a question for ya! WHY is it that MY ship has to ROLL in? Why doesn't it FLOAT in? The last time I checked, ships didn't have wheels!

I learned the ship lingo on our first cruise! Fun TT!!

Re. Wicked, I LOVE the play! Very different from the book. Did you see on Broadway?

Oh, these are good things to know. I'm planning on going on a cruise in May. :D

Love the lingo! It makes it seem more exotic--it just wouldn't be the same to have a room on the second floor on the right side of the ship. :)

One day! One day!

Although I worry a bit about feeling claustrophobic in the stateroom that my current budget can't quite afford. ;)

I'm also torn about where to go. There's a really cool cruise through my radio station...but it's on a different line. Then I would love to take a Hawaiian cruise so I can see all the islands and I would also love to go on an Alaskan cruise because I hear that they are so beautiful.

sigh decisions, decisions.

well it won't happen anytime soon as we still have the DD who wants to go see a bunch of dolls in LA. sigh

I don't know anything about ships. So this is very fun! Of course, I'm waaay too much of a spaz to take a cruise. But I know people find them lovely!

That was a great education. Do they actually have a brig on board?

I've never been on a cruise and would love to try one. My wide went on so many during her childhood and teens that she never wants to go one one again. *sigh* Guess who wins!
