Home Sweet Home

This weekend, I went down to Richmond and BOUGHT A NEW HOUSE! Ok, technically, I put an offer on a house, and technically it's a townhome, but the offer has been verbally accepted.

And before you ask, no, I don't have pictures to post. I'll take some for you when I go back down for the home inspection in the next two weeks.

But let me describe it for you. It's in the West End of Richmond (it's one of a few trendy areas in the city) in an area called Shannon Green, in a subdivision called Summer Hill. It's a townhome, and it is about 1200 sq-ft. Plenty of space for me and the cat. There's an adorable front porch with one little quirk - one of the railing posts is upside down! I LOVE it, because it means I'll fit right in. Ha ha. You walk in to a very open living room, with a huge window that looks out on said porch and the blooming cherry tree (or plum, we can't tell yet) in the front yard. There's a half bath off of the entranceway. Next, there's a HUGE eat-in kitchen with a look-through/bar area from the living room, and definitely more than one kitchen drawer (I only have one in my condo) with tons of cabinets and a pantry. There's a washer/dryer room off the kitchen separated by bi-fold doors. Off the kitchen is a huge double door which leads out to my small backyard, featuring a concreate patio and a storage unit. The view out of the back door is an embankment with a tree - no peeping toms from the townhouses in the next court over.

Let me take you upstairs, (there are 2 floors) where the most beautiful hall light hangs to light our way. There are two bedrooms and two full baths. And both of the bedrooms and the hallway have vaulted ceilings. The master bedroom has his and hers closets and a small full bath, with possibly the nicest ceiling fan I've seen (the previous owner updated all the light fixtures). The guest room also has a walk-in closet, and then the larger bath is at the end of the hall. All of the baths have a tan marble vanity top with a "shell" sink and the former owner also updated all of the towel racks, etc. on the walls.

No house would be perfect, and I expected to have to do a bit of work. First things first, I'll need to paint. The bedrooms upstairs are just not my taste (one is pink. ugh) and I'll paint the living room and kitchen as well. The kitchen definitely needs new laminate, and I'll probably do something fancy with the floor in the entryway. Maybe some marble tile. But I would make whatever home I bought "mine" with little Carmen touches, so all in all, it's the perfect place for me.

I met one set of neighbors. They were having a birthday party for their small daughter, and outside, you could hear the noise, but inside my home, NADA! QUIET! The townhouse is an interior unit, so I was concerned about that, but not anymore! The neighbors seem nice enough, except the homes on either side of me have VIRGINIA TECH flags in their windows. I'll just have to go order myself the biggest UVA flag I can find. ;)

There is some movement on the selling my own home front as well. I won't go into it now though, because I don't want to jinx anything there. But keep your fingers crossed for me.

sounds like you found a real winner. 2.5 baths? That's three toilets to clean, but I guess you don't have to use all of them, since it's just you!

I'm so thrilled for you, good luck on the condo. It's adorable, so it should move pretty fast I would think!

Carmen your condo sounds perfect! When can I move in?

By the way, I found the dress on Demetrios Brides. It's under prom dresses. I think it's the first one. Unfortunately, I'm not the model!

It sounds great, Carmen. Especially with basketball season heating up, the Virginia flag would be a great touch.
The best part is the quiet part. I wish my place was as much so. I hear my neighbors clomping up the stairs, and at night, I can hear their shower and toilet. Ugggh.
