Thursday 13 v. 24

Thirteen Reasons Carmen Doesn't Want Summer to End :(
  1. I love warm temperatures. I'll even take the 100 degree heat and humidity, even if it does make my hair go all schmoopy.
  2. I like the longer days. Who wants to leave work at 5 p.m. in the DARK? Ugh. (PS: If they have daylight savings time, why can't we have weekend savings time. On Monday, we decide it's Friday)
  3. I like summer clothes better than winter clothes. I despise turtlenecks and I'm allergic to wool.
  4. When the kids go back to school, my commute time increases. Kids: don't dawdle, just get off the bus, already! There are 30 bajillion cars that would like to go now.
  5. I get all hibernate-y in the winter. I don't want to go outside. I want to snuggle on my couch and eat lots of bad food.
  6. I don't eat ice cream in the wintertime, because it's cold. And I LOVE me some Dairy Queen.
  7. Some idiot built the main road in and out of DC going dead East and dead West. So in the winter, the sun blinds you (in the morning and evening) and you run into cars in front of you meaning there's more traffic because of all the blindness.
  8. Hungarian lifeguard eye candy isn't in shorts at the pool anymore. Come to think of it, there's no pool at all. Thbbbbt.
  9. I. Hate. Snow. Actually, I don't hate snow when it's pretty and falling. I hate it when I still have to go to work so I have to shovel my car out. And then it gets all dirty and icky and takes forever to melt because idiots pile it all in one big iceberg-esque pile.
  10. I don't like to be cold.
  11. I don't like to be sick. And winter is when I always get sick.
  12. I don't like ice storms when the power goes out. And usually the storms happen when I have plans to be somewhere else.
  13. I have a birthday in January. I'm done with birthdays. Though this year I'll be in Hawaii for my birthday, so that'll be the one good thing about winter.

Hey my birthday is in Jan too! I'm hitting a big "0" birthday this year...boo!
I don't like winter either. Today was over 80 degrees here.

I had to stop doing WW and TT. No time. It was killing me trying to get to everyone on the list. I just couldn't do it and work full time!

Now Carmen. I would think going to Hawaii for your birthday would wipe out not wanting to leave summer behind, at least for this year!

Maaaaaaaan, I wanna be in Hawaii on my birthday next year, it's the big 5-0! I deserve it, don't I?

    Mama Duck said...

Ah, move down here, always ice cream weather!! Happy TT!

Geez ... I wish my hair would go all schmoopy ... hair?

The only good thing about the end of summer is the beginning of football season.

Glad to hear you've got your January birthday holiday destination sorted. Here we are still in discussion, though we might come to a decision soon...

Oh, and I'm allergic to wool also. Do you get a rashy, itchy neck when you wear it? Isn't that bogus?

    Anonymous said...

Well, I don't hate winter, but I do agree with you that Summer is so much nicer. :) The days here are starting to get darker earlier and it's getting cool in the evenings and at night ... Summers not over but it will end soon. It's the one season that I regret ending the most.

I LOVE WINTER and HATE Summer! Australia in summer is NOT NICE ppl, and when we have power blackouts (which is often) its on 40 degree days and no aircon! give me winter anyday! :P

    Happy TT! Mines up!

    Tink said...

To say I'm glad the summer is coming to an end would be too much, but after the heatwaves I'm quite ready for something else! :-)
My TT is about my new kitten.

FABULOUS list Carmen! My sentiments exactly! Especially the one about hating winter clothes! UGH! I am all about SHORTS!!!

Hawaii for birthday!! That's so awesome!!!! I love love love Hawaii!

I will miss summer too, although I eat ice cream any time of year!

    Lindsay said...

I love winter.... prob beacuse it is so darn hot here in TX!
But I agree with you, in pther partns of the US summer is nicer.. here it rearely gets below 50 degrees!

    Lisa said...

I'm not looking forward to the cold winter air at ALL!

I know what you mean about being done with birthdays. Who cares after 21? ;)

(BTW, good luck looking for idiot-free locations! LOL)

Weekend savings time, wouldn't that be nice? of course, my profs would probably decide to hold class anyway :p I can definitely relate to being all hibernate-y in the winter. When it's cold, it's just nice to stay inside wrapped up in blankets and not think about the outside world. And that's wonderful that you'll be in Hawaii on your birthday! At least you'll have that to look forward to as the weather starts to get colder.

    Juggling Mother said...

    schmoopy?

    is that actually a word..???

I'm a spring person myself anything over 25 Celcius just slows me to a halt

    Pixie said...

I have to say that I prefer spring to summer but fall is my favorite time of the year until after Thanksgiving; then I'm done & ready to fast forward to March. Move to Texas; we hardly ever see snow & have maybe 1 ice storm a year. The last 4 Christmas' we were outside running around in our shorts. :-)

Thanks for visiting my TT. I hope you have an awesome day!

    Zeus said...

First, I'm sorry you didn't make the Thursday Thirteen on my blog this week. I'll do it again sometime, I promise, and then for sure, you'll be on the list!

I'm very much ready for summer to be over. 96 degree heat plus humidity to make it a whopping 106 degree feeling every single bleeping day makes my fur melt off of my skin. I need a cold front, and I need it now people!

    MaR said...

I love your idea about weekend savings time!!! I'll vote for you! I don't mind the winter time because it doesn't snow where I live. And we've had a long hot summer this time. You'll be in Hawaii in january, I chose to go skiing! but we can still be friends, can't we? Happy TT!!!!

    twiga92 said...

I like fall, but I don't like winter, so summer ending does have its downfalls. Driving in snow doesn't thrill me. Blech!

    Anonymous said...

I LOVE Hawai'i!!! Been there and would have loved to STAY there! --but expensive living over there too. And a friend of mine said it's more so now than ever. Oh I wish I were there!!

And snow?!! You hate snow?!! FINALLY I found someone else who despises the trek outside in the snow to shovel your car out, shiver and freeze de-icing the windows so you can see where you're sliding off the road! Yep, hooray for Carmen. You and me---we're heat loving creatures. I'll take 110 degrees any ol' time compared to -10 in the mornings during the winter. Snow, for me, is only pretty in pictures!

Hmmmmmm, Hungarian Hunk in swim trunks?!! Sounds divine to me. *giggles*

    Anonymous said...

Hawaii in January?! How "cool" is that? *grin* ENJOY.

I like hot weather, but to a point. Right now, I'm so sick of it I can't stand to even BE outside anymore. We've had a looong hot, dry summer and I can't wait for the moisture to come back and put a bite in the air.

I will miss those hunky lifeguards though. *grin*

    Thanks for stopping by!

    Lazy Daisy said...

Sure is hard to think of snow when it's been such a long hot dry summer. I'm a fall girl so am coming into my element. Traffic in DC is always tricky at best but realize it's worse with school in session. Hawaii sounds like a perfect "carrot on a stick" to keep your spirits lifted.

    Margaret said...

Cool list! I don't mind the heat either, especially when there are places to go for AC retreat. I breath better and weigh less in the South. =O)

As for Weekend Savings time, I found when I started my own Business that I insisted to have Wednesdays off. That gives me a mid-week day and turns my Tuesdays into mini-Fridays.

    Anonymous said...

I do feel the fall closing in. After the butterflies come the spider nests. And I hate to put shoes on! And I love to eat on my porch!

    Mine are late breaking.

    Heather Smith said...

Do you need a travelling buddy in January!? LOL! Seriously, I'm a fall girl or spring girl, I don't like it TOO hot or TOO cold!

    Cooth said...

I agree! I don't want summer to end either! It's already starting to get dark earlier! Waaaaah!

    Changed by His Love said...

I don't want the summer to end, although, a little bit of coolness would be okay. Daylight Savings will change next year, so the Winter/Fall won't seem as long. Did you say birthday?? Now, Carmen, you know how I love birthdays!! (Thanks for my birthday song, it rocked!!) I have added you to my blogroll, because honestly, you are awesome!
    Happy TT!

    Lynn said...

I like your second one...especially when we lived in Maine and it would get dark at 4:30 pm...ugh! However, I wonder if you didn't mean eat lots of good food that's bad for you in number 5:-) Great list. I'd vote for weekend savings time!

    My TT is up.

summer... i dont want it to go either. winter is cold, very cold, very very cold and depressing.

though i don't mind my birthday being in January..

I'm not a fan of winter, but I would prefer a break from the 100+ degree heat. At least #13 is looking up. Thanks for stopping by!

    Meg said...

That's a great list, but I'm a winter fan, myself. I think it might have something to do with that fact that I am a complete Christmas fanatic! Don't get me wrong, there are things I love about summer, but I can't wait for the cooler weather!

    Happy TT...mine's up!

I live in the same area as you - NoVA. Worked until Jan of this year. I know what you mean! The sun sets in winter just in time for the commute home - makes for miserable commute times! Besides people in VA cannot drive when it snows! I will miss summer too because that means three crazy kids in the house with me!

I've always wanted to be in Australia in March to celebrate my birthday. Of course Hawaii would do quite nicely. You are a lucky woman!

I love that feeling like you are melting from the heat. It makes me want a cold beer.

    Lindsey said...

I am soooooo with you! I hate the cold and gross weather, and let's face it, there are simply better things associated with summer! Happy TT!

    Unknown said...

Aloha! What a great way to celebrate a birthday! I'm a Summer girl too! Snow's great for playing in, but shoveling it is another thing!LOL about the kids taking the bus. I know the feeling!
    Have a great Thursday!

    Shannon said...

Now see, I love winter. Actually, if I had my way, I love fall and spring. But I'd rather be cold than hot. Can always bundle up. And I don't swat as much during my workouts. And I make killer homemade soups that just don't work in the summer. Now that I'm growing my hair out, summer makes my hair pretty darn schmoopy. Winter, a few flakes, nice warm boots, ahhh.

    K said...

I don't want summer to end either!! A great list!

    Twisted Cinderella said...

I don't blame you. If i had a magic button I would make winter disappear and make it summer all year long. i always said, I should have been born in florida but with the hurricanes and all, I think I will stay where I am. LOL! Great TT mine is up too.

    Chaotic Mom said...

I prefer the heat, but not humidity, over cold andsnow any day. Hmmm... There's eye candy at the pool? Count me in! ;)

I love winter but fall is my fav. crisp air, pretty trees, football and hunting. yeah, it doesn't get any better than that.

Have a great day, thanks for stopping by my T13 earlier...

Okay, so I basically live in the North Pole (aka Buffalo) and I really, really dont want the summer to end. It is going to suck when it does.

    Sarah said...

Heh. I want summer to end because it's TOO hot. The rest, those are all good reasons. ;-)

    Bone said...

I'm with you on most of that. Except that I like winter clothes better than summer.

I think getting behind a school bus that is making frequent stops on a road where there is little to no hope of passing is one of the five worst experiences in life.

    Candy Minx said...

I like summer a lot, but I love sweater weather too. I like all the seasons...but I do feel bad for those folks out there that are real summer and sun worshippers...

I love winter, but thats because I live in Southern CA, so thats the only time I get a break from the nasty heat. Anyhow, enjoy what is left of the summer...going home from work in the dark blows. It feels like your entire day was wasted and like you never get to see the sun anymore.

I guess I get sick of each of the seasons towards the end of each, but I'm always looking forward tot he end. I like changing my clothes, the changes in the air, I love cuddling inside when it's chilly outside, and I'm sick to death of this humidity, so I'm kind of looking forward to Fall.

    Anonymous said...

Brrr. I'm cold just thinking about it. To be honest, I'm sick of summer (sorry!) but I *love* Fall and *hate* Winter. Winter never ends soon enough. Hawaii in January sounds damn nice though. At least there's something to look forward to! :)

I love summer, and I cannot wait for it to get here. Our winter seems like it's finally winding down now (yay!) and we'll be in Spring in a couple of weeks. I can't wait!!

    Anonymous said...

I love snow...when I'm in the comfort of my own home and don't need to go anywhere. But I hate it when it's a work day. Especially that first snow of the year. It's like people forget how to drive in the snow over the winter. Hello people, we live in Iowa. Snows every year, remember?

    Beckadoodles said...

Speaking as a person with the completely opposite thoughts...we should change places!!
I love winter in Virginia!! (Maybe because I work from home and never have to worry about a commute.in snow) But I simply hate being hot and it be hot in Hawaii!! When you come in January it'll be nice usually highs in the 70's and the occasional rain shower...but it's warm rain! Oh and no need for turtlenecks! Pack you bikini and you can enjoy all the ice-cream you want! hehehe Let's do a Freaky-Friday thing and switch lives! hehehe
