Sleep Study

My regulars know that last week I was late to the Thursday 13 because I had to undergo a sleep study the night before. Let me tell you how much fun it . . . WASN'T.

The technicians were extremely nice, and let me sit in the lobby to watch A.I. (elimination show) while they put all the "nodes" on me. I had more wires sticking out of me than sticks out of the back of my television.

They "glued" them on with this sticky stuff, and the ones on my leg/face were taped on with surgical tape. The ones in my hair were just stuck on with the goo. When I looked in the mirror, I saw something out of a horror flick. Aaaaack! The next day, I was all mad, because the tape bothered my skin and I had these two red "sideburns" on my cheecks. Very attractive. All you single men are just drooling now, I know.

Then they put one of those breathing things in my nose. I HATE those things. When I had surgery a couple of years ago, I kept pulling it out, it was so annyoing. How was I supposed to SLEEP during this study? Geesh. Well, I didn't sleep much. I must've fallen asleep once or twice, because they were able to tell me that I had mild sleep apnea.

If my complaint, as it states on the report, is GETTING to sleep, how is that affected by something that happens AFTER I sleep? Plus, it's May, it's prime allergy season, DC is listed as the worst for allergies, and OF COURSE I CAN'T BREATHE. I can't breathe when I'm awake either. I found this to be SO not helpful. So meanwhile, I'm still exhausted and not sleeping, and now out the copay for the study. Yes, things are much better.

you know, that just sounds miserable.
I've actually been trying to be useful this week, and oddly enough, that usually means staying off the computer!! i did read your story though, I'm just to slow to come up with anything.

OH - and Jack says he has weapons for you to borrow in case you run into mummys on your trip. we were watching The Mummy the other night & he said he wanted to go to Egypt- when I said you were, he wanted me to tell you to be careful!

Yes, I wondered what this sleep study was and how was going to be done. It doesn't sound very pleasant...sorry about that!

Yuck! I'm sorry about that experience. If you have to go back, you should tell them that my chihuahuas will bite their ankles if they can't help you more than that.

You really don't need to throw in there that they don't actually ever bite anybody because their mouths are too small. It would probably ruin the effect. :)

How uncomfortable was that?!! ...not condusive to SLEEP at all! You know I know of a person who went for a similar test and they told them they had apnea too and sold them all this equipment that ended up actually disrupting their sleep at home (more than helping it). From what I've heard, they are very motivated to head an apnea diagnosis because then they can sell the equipment...hmmm...

Anyway, I hope your natural sleep patterns return to normal soon:)

Hey, stop talking about the tape sideburns. It's on the list of "Top 10 Turn-Ons". :)

Sleep study sounds like something I'd like to be graded on, instead of those ridiculous tests in college.

I had one of those sleep tests about 15 years ago. I was so wired up I couldn't imagine I would sleep plus the techs come in during the night to check. I had the best night's sleep I'd had in ages! Slept like a baby.

Oh my I've been there! Then when we moved to this state we live in now, the doc wanted me to do it again. For what??? So I can start over with the horrendous bills? Funny I've forgotten how unsexy that felt :\
