Near or Far

My writer's block has been plaguing me recently. Apologies.

I've heard from a lot of folks about how they'd love to travel, but they just don't have the moola.

Travel doesn't have to be across the world (although that IS my favorite), but you can travel in your own backyard, so to speak.

Take, for example, my upcoming "trip." The BF and I are driving an hour away to Williamsburg, VA for a nice, Memorial Day "getaway." We'll only be gone overnight, and there aren't any plane tickets involved or anything, but it's a nice way to get out of Dodge without spending a lot of money.

The economy sucks. I hear ya. But take a look at nearby towns that you've always said you'd like to see. Heck, where do you live? There are a tons of things in Richmond that I haven't seen. And when I lived in D.C., I could've played tourist there for weeks before I hit all the top spots.

It's all about expanding horizons, whether nearby ones or far away ones.

There are usually great books that can be found in your local booksellers that offer ideas into attractions and cities in your local town. I know Romantic Weekends has an entire series for areas around the country which are just nice romantic inns that people can stay at--some of which might be fairly close.

What wonderful tips. I know what you mean about DC. When I was there it took me months to see everything.

yup! We're always finding new cool stuff to do near us. We've been in this house for 7 years and just finally went 30 min south of us to a State Park to look at the old dam that failed. It was really cool!
And that's kinda how the story about Jen's couch came about...she was trying to have us do a tour of a historic house up in the mountains.

BTW: We had an awesome time in Williamsburg!!! DD wants to go back again and again (to Busch Gardens ) but she liked Yorktowne too.

Well said, Carmen! I prefer short trips or field trips so as to limit my luggage...or the chance of forgetting an essential item :)

Museums are free every 1st Sunday of the month here and many people use this chance for a trip into the city. Every community has much to offer!
