Like Scratching a Chalkboard

In general, I think American Idol should give up on country night. Although, it does give those that are more inclined to that music a chance to shine, while it's just torture to listen to others who aren't. Like Sanjaya. I'm not sure he's inclined to any kind of music, really. Makes me wonder what the judges were thinking when they put him through from the tryouts. Last night, he was horrible. It was like listening to nails on a chalkboard. Simon was right. Ha ha. It was funny. Now stop.

Though I do enjoy me some Martina McBride. When I lived in Nashville, I got to see her at the Grand Ole Opry. She sang "O Holy Night" acapella, and made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. It was THAT good. Who do you enjoy?

Like most people here in the UK (or Europe, even), I don't have the tools to deal with country music. It's something totally alien to us and we're not equipped to process it.

I think Simon speaks for all of us when he is lost for words during country night. I remember his reaction after Kelly Pickler (or was it Bucky?) sang some horrid country song during the last series... Simon just didn't know what to say.

American Idol is on on Fridays here, but if it's country night, I might give it a miss this week. To be honest, I wish they didn't do theme nights, full stop. Isn't it better to just have them do whatever they want?

As for Sanjaya, I think they made a big mistake putting him through, but I guess after that tuneless disaster that was his sister, they felt they had a real gem on their hands. But now that America loves him... who knows? Could he be the next AI? It's a scary thought...

Man! I'm so jealous you got to see someone perform at the Opry.

I really like Miranda Lambert and right now I'm on a Little Big Town kick.

I'm not sure I love country, but I don't mind it when it is sung well... last night though not so much.

Missed that, but I like Country Music when done well. I've got a ton of Garth CD's from the 90's.

There's a song by Todd Agnew "In the First Light" that makes my hair stand up...that whole album is good.

First of all, I do NOT do A.I.

Having said that... I do like country music... haven't kept up with the newer stuff of the last couple of years... my faves are Marty Stuart, and of course, Garth Brooks. My first choices are classic rock & oldies... I also like reggae and Irish folk music (Gaelic Storm RULES!).

Krysti saw Martina at the USAir Arena for her Christmas show 2 year ago -- she said the SAME thing about her acapella O Holy Night! She IS an incredible artist!

I'm fortunate in that I have never actually HEARD Sanjaya... I've only heard OF him! LOL! Does seem odd that he's still around... sometimes I think they do it on purpose just to give folks something to fuss about.

I love most country music -- Carrie Underwood is a favorite... and Trace Adkins... Tim & Faith... I have LOTS of non-country favorites too -- but the last couple of years I seem to be stuck on country again!

I really enjoyed Melinda's singing on AI this week. Usually, I don't really. I mean, she's an excellent singer, but I don't love her personality like I do Blake's. But this week, she had my toe tappin'.
