- In my hometown, there is a haunted house called Selma house. The story goes that a Union soldier chased a Confederate soldier into the house and shot him. No one can cover the blood stains on the floor, and many have reported seeing the ghost. It's been said he's a helpful ghost, helping residents carry laundry up the stairs. :) The true Southern gentleman.
- I enjoy taking a ghost tour of Old Town Alexandria, VA every year for Halloween, it's really fun, and the tour always ends in a graveyard. Mwah-ha-ha!
- Gadsby's Tavern is one of the stops on the tour. A young man brought a woman to the hotel, where she fell ill. The man had asked that no one know her name. When she died, the man left money for her care, but disappeared, and still no one knows her name. There have been reports of a candle burning in an empty room, and several "sightings"
- It seems that the Old Town Alexandria Visitor's Center is haunted as well. No one is allowed to work there alone after dark, after "strange happenings" were reported.
- I took a ghost tour of New Orleans when I was there as well. There was the obligitory vampire story, but it wasn't really scary.
- The scariest story was about the Lalaurie House - it's a ghost story, but the actual happening that inspired the ghosts is scarier. One evening, while Ms. Lalaurie was having a party in her grand hall, the house caught fire. When firefighters went into the house, they found a hidden room where she kept - and tortured - her slaves. It is said that some of the firefighters fainted at the sight of some of the tortures.
- When I was in New Orleans, I also visited one of the cemetaries. Most the tombs are above ground (crypts), as those that are buried would float away with a strong rain. There are a few buried underground - (mostly in the protestant areas of the cemetary). They are held down with very heavy stone tablets. When it floods, you can hear the coffins hitting the stone - they're floating.
- In New Orleans, when someone in the family passes away, their bodies are put into the family crypt. The heat and environment "cremates" them over the next year or so. When the next family member is put in the crypt, the old bones are pushed back, and fall into the bottom to make room for the new person. Hope you REALLY liked your relatives. ;)
- This year, I took a ghost tour of Leesburg, VA. It was led by a parapsychologist researcher. It was neat to see the equipment they use to "ghost hunt." They scientifically approach the paranormal, trying to debunk it. There are 48 stories from Leesburg that they can't debunk.
- There are different kinds of paranormal, according to the Leesburg researchers. There are "residuals", which is where someone has a strong experience, and the chemicals from our experiences (both good and bad) are left behind. These are like "memories" left behind. The "sentients" are ghosts that show reasoning.
- Every person has an electromagnetic field around them. There are also electromagnetic fields without a person in them. :) The tour leader told us about a military project where they designed special goggles to see electromagnetic fields of their soldiers. They abandoned the project, because not only did it pick up the soldiers, but other spots that weren't there when they took the goggles off!
- We "touched" a ghost. Funny enough, before the tour leader stopped and told us that we were in a spot with a lot of residuals concentrated in one place, the hair stood up on my neck. I got the chills. She said she could feel that I could sense the energy. She also sees dead people, but then, maybe I do too . . .
- I've had several dreams of someone standing over me, and then I wake up, and there's actually a form standing over me. I threw my teddy bear at it once - that was a big help. But I haven't had the "dream" since moving out of that apartment. Hmmmmmm

You must have unagi...Not the eel!
Like Ross from that episode of friends. "I sensed you were there!"
Maybe in Leesburg, you touched the Yuppie Ghost of the Subdivision!
Ooooooooh Spooky! Have a good Halloween!!!!
Too bad Ms. Lalaurie is dead...I'd like to torture HER ass, what a bitch!
I believe in that electromagnetic field thing.
Have you ever been to Gettysburg? They say the battlefield is haunted. I'll bet they have some good ghost tours there.
Happy TT.
My scary list is up.
boo.
OK, you're freakin' me out. It's bad enough that I already run up the stairs at night so that whatever is chasing me can't catch me.
Some of us don't have cats to protect us :-)
Thanks for sharing those scary stories and happy Thursday! :)
my hubby had something similiar to #13 happen to him. After they had the spirits cast out of the house, there were no more problems. Scary!
p.s. I totally believe in this stuff. Spirits are out there, and sadly not all of them are the good laundry carrying variety.
You should really go on the ghost tour in old Savannah that will curl your hair....feel better!
That is so cool to live in a place that actually has some history--ghosts are much more effective in ante-bellum years than in 1970.
Very interesting T13! I love ghost stories and stuff like that. They freak me out though LOL
Ohhh these sound spooky alrite!
Happy TT!
I love scary stories, thanks for sharing!
My TT is about Halloween facts.
Thinks I watch ghost stories too much. I have heard of most of them. The woman in New Orleans is the best. LOL
Mine is up but only scarey if your computer desk is a mess too. ;)
OK, I am totally freaked out!! I am easily scared so I don't do haunted houses.
My T13 is up, come on by.
Spooky list!! I've never had an encounter with a ghost though...
Boo!
I love a ghost story! I once was sitting at the kitchen table and water in the sink started splashing. It was very spooky.
Lordy!!! I've been to old-town, historic Alexandria Virginia...and I remember telling hubby the whole area has an eerie aura around it. Spooky, huh? Then I read what you've been to....how exciting. I love this kinda thing!
And "EWWWWWWWWW" about the crypt in New Orleans! As I read it, I was thinking, what if someone else in the family dies just a couple of weeks after another family member---they open the crypt and find half baked dead people?!!! Lord love a duck!!! :o)
Happy Thursday Carmen. Your list is SPPOKtacular.
Gah! I have to admit I really DO NOT LIKE Halloween! I don't like spooky. I don't like SCARY! I'm okay with cute little children dressed in costumes... and pumpkins carved with nifty faces. I'm not big on the begging for candy thing. I DID it all, with my kids... but I was never really IN to it...
Sounds like you are though!!! You GET those ghosts Carmen! You GO girl!
Spooky! Great list with Hallowe'en right around the corner. :) Interesting about the EM fields.
Happy TT. :)
Happy Halloween and TT!
I took a ghost tour in Charleston, SC, once. VERY interesting. I'm heading your way for a conference next month, may take a peek at some of these "haunts". ;)
I've posted my Thursday Thirteen, too. Enjoy!
Oooh, cool stories! Very timely, too.
Hey, there are ghosts in one of the books I took my TT from this week--it fits, right?
Too...scared...to...write. I think I just peed a little bit.
Okay stop it, your scarying me with these stories!:)
Happy TT!
ghost tours are so cool! sharing a crypt with the rest of my family is not something I think I would like. it's kind of morbid.
thanks for dropping by and have a great weekend!
I would love to go on a tour like that!
ooh, I'd LOVE to go on ghost tours - awesome!!
You gave me goosebumps!!
We went on a Ghost Tour in Key West and it rocked!
Boo! I love New Orleans cemetary tours.
Happy Thursday!
I'm way too easily scared for ghost tours, although I do like cemeteries...for historic purposes!
Mine won't scare you.
Scary list!!!
Happy TT!!!
Fascinating scary stories Carmen, I really enjoyed reading and imagining them...I think the electromagnetic tour and equipment must have been so cool to see. I loved the movie Ghostbusters, and actually, I grew up ina family that believed in ghosts, ufos and all kinds of "otherworldly" things...although I don't have any clairvoyant powers or see anything or feel anything. My boyfriend was telling me last night that there are a lot of ghosts sightings in Chicago and you can take a tour. I might try to check that out after your inspiring post here.
Happy Thursday!

OOOOO-eeeeeee-ooooooooooooo. (scary music)
I am afraid to click on the link for the slave torturer. Do I really want to know more?
Ooooh creepy. I don't know much about ghosts and paranormal stuff, but it's fascinating!
I've never taken a ghost tour but it sounds like fun!
AC
13 haunting Halloween melodies
I am having the chills myself, whooooooo, this was spooky. Happy TT to youuuuuuuu
I love scary stuff :) I'll have to check out a few of the local ones around here.
*shivers* ;)
I don't like ghosts. Nope. You are very brave.
(I almost wrote "furry brave." I'm stuck in the cat blogosphere)
You know, the teddy bear defense is impenetrable. Just like pulling the cotton/poly sheets over your head. They can't go through fabric blends. You're totally safe.
Once my sister and I were driving home in the rain. A girl was walking down the middle of the road, and we had to swerve to miss her because it was like she didn't see us. When we turned back around to try to see if she needed help, she was gone. There were no houses, buildings, cars, trees or anything around, but she was GONE. Freakiest thing that I've ever experienced.
When I lived in New Orleans, I couldn't walk by the Lalaurie House without getting ill, even before I knew about what happened there. Later, when I used to take the haunted tours with friends, I used to have to go down the street and wait for them.
The current owners say they don't have any problems with hauntings but I always feel the evil just radiating from the place.
If you happen to get on one of the New Olreans haunted tours Randy is doing, say "hi" and pay particular attention to his Count Germaine tale (that's my favorite). Also, you can aggrevate him real good by asking him about the filming of "Interview with a Vampire" and all the things they did wrong. :P
Ohhh, too scary. I avoid scary anything if I can.
oooh - that gave me the creeps...loved it! ;)
Man there were a lot of ghost tours in VA! They hit us up at the Visitor's center, but we asked if we could buy the tickets later...which was a good thing because by the time it got dark we were wiped out.
Darly is now upset at all the stuff we missed out on because she was whiney...figures!
the ghost tours sound especially fun. spook, scary and fun stuff!
thanks for visiting my tt this week.
Don't like scary...nope (shaking head)...scary and I don't get along....
I think the one in Leesburg sounds like great fun! Happy Halloween!
Very scary list! Interesting and fun to hear about, but I'm not too sure I'd want to go along on all those ghost tours. Too scary for me.
Perfect Halloween 13.
I've always wanted to visit a haunted house. We have Merchants House here in New York, and I have to make time to go soon.
Trick or Treat,
Frances
I don't do ghosts--but you've had such a good time.
Thanks for visiting my TT
I have been on that haunted graveyard tour in New Orleans, but I didn't find it to be very scary.
I am going ot have to show your list to my husband...he loves going places like this!
For a spooky time call CARMEN! Great list! I love being scared, to a point then I have to sleep with a light on! LOL
Happy Thursday!
I SO hope you're carving this year? If you do, PLEASE enter it into my carving contest! I would love to see what you come up with!!
Reading your list was giving me the chills.Going on a Ghost hunts sounds like lots of fun.
Have a spooky Thursday!
You have a braver soul than I. I get terrified in the Walt Disney Haunted House, so I can't imagine going to a real haunted house! Gives me shivers just thinking about it.
Picture List today: Thirteen 10th Birthday Photos
What a great TT!!!
#13 just freaked me right out!!!
I'm the kind of person who purposely books rooms in houses/hotels that are haunted, so I LOVE your list! Some of the photos I've taken in these places would really freak people out!!
Have a GREAT Halloween!!
okay, so the video of the cats on your sidebar cracked me up!!!
I hated haunted houses! Yikes!
Happy TT
Eeeek! I'm too easy to scare!
*running away screaming*
My human finds all of this fascinating. As a cat, I'm not worried about the supernatural--after all I am--aren't I?
The whole New Orlieans bit is a little unnerving and spooky.
Happy TT
Great, great list!!! I love spooky stuff!
#13 happened to me when my parents lived at an old farm house. I still remember it as if it was yesterday and I was about 10 years old. Soooo freaky!
Those are creepy. We had been in Gettysburg on Tuesday. Our battlefield guide claimed that someone wrote a book on the ghosts of Gettysburg. Now, everything is haunted. I don't know whether there are ghosts or not. I do know we had done a similar tour when I was in 5th grade. That tour guide said that vultures return to Little Big Top every year on the anniversary of the battle.
Oh great. Right now I'm about a mile from Old Town Alexandria. I'm just sure the ghosts are all on their way over to visit.
:-)
Yikes! I don't do well with scary stories! I just enjoy the candy part of Halloween!
that was a scary one. I should have added you to my TT which is 13 things that scare me .. .this post scared me ...
You know, I've never really gotten into spooky things. I guess I'm just too much of a weenie!
Another reason to visit Alexandria!
Amazing list, That is a great TT!!
That was so interesting! Loved hearing all of those stories.
That all is so cool! This kind of stuff just fascinates the heck out of me.
Happy TT and happy Friday!
