Faithful readers, I need your help! I am going to enter a photo contest, where the theme is "The Heart of the Image". I can't enter any pictures that have previously been judged, so my favorite photos are out. I have to choose TWO to enter. I currently have 8 that I'm considering - in the slideshow below. Please leave a comment and tell me which one(s) you think displays the theme, and is a good pic.
Am I being to literal with the Sydney pictures (the New Year's Eve theme was "Heart")? Is a sunset too obvious? Are ANY of them contest-worthy? HELP! :)

My favourite is the one with the butterfly (have you considered rotating it 180 degrees, though?), followed by Pooh Bear. Of course, I am always drawn to pictures of cats...
The one with the bottles and jugs seems also very good.
My two picks would be the one of the ocean with the cross and woven square having on the cross or the sunset picture with the deep oranges set against the black silhouettes of the landscape. I think those two definitely represent the theme well and invoke a lot of emotions.
I would choose the little kitty one & the awesome sunset one but they are all great! *s*
I'd still choose the sunset. Lovely pic.
I like the one of the red fireworks and the one with the beach in the background with the straw-ish sculpture. And, of course, the kittie. =P
Absolutely some of the Sydney shots, preferably the red one, thats just AWESOME!
It's the most unusual shot and fireworks are difficult to get!
I always think the hardest part is to choose...
Good luck both with the choice and the contest :-)
The cat one is beautiful; I love the way you can see the screen reflected in the eye!
The gerbera daisy with the bottles would be my second; I like the way the daisy seems to jump out of the picture.
I like the Sydney fireworks one- the sunset is nice, but everyone has a sunset photo. I also like the tabletop one- because it's interesting, but that doesn't mean much... so, do you have to take sick days since you can't get into the office??
Well, you know I'm going to go for Pooh Bear. The other choice is the gerber daisy and the bottles/pots.
My fav is Pooh, though...and not just because I'm developing a crush!
I like the cat picture.
But I might be biased.
I like the "Ireland Table" one.
But I also really like the way the kitty is looking up toward the light...
The kitty might be my favorite, actually.
I vote for the pic of the Sydney fireworks with the heart in the middle...and the cat,
I LOVE 3 of them when thinking of "The Heart of the Image":
1)Ireland Table - the frame of the picture is full, yet there's ONE thing that stands out... the gerber daisy. The color and placement makes it come forward while the rest seem to be in the background of the composition.
2)Ireland Ferry Dock - the red color stands out against the blue of the rest of the frame... also the "man-made" or more "perfect" shapes of the cross, diamond and circle pop against the natural, freeflowing shapes of the clouds and water ripples.
3)Pooh - Love the lighting AND the screen in his eyes... also, the way he's focused makes you wonder what the "heart of HIS image" is.... hmmm......
Great photos, Girl!!
gerber daisy with bottles AND red fireworks shot
good luck!
I like the Sydney fireworks that cast the white glow on the water(not the red...yep, that'd be overkill. If the theme were passion, that'd be a good one) but I also like the kitty picture. When I looked at it closely, I could see his glance followed the lines in the background exactly.
I'm a sucker for a sunset.
The cat gets my first vote followed by the table top then the fireworks.
First...Happy Wednesday Carmen. Second...thanks for the visit today.
NOW!!--on with the show...well, anyway my two choices.
The kitty. Why? Because of the lighting. A fabulous well composed image and an animal!! Second choice is the sunset over the water...again, the lighting and the silhouette effect if the darkened tree.
There, you have my two picks, and that's my final answer.
GOOD luck! (PS...do we get to vote on these somewhere, or is this a 'pro' type contest in a studio or art show?)
I would choose the butterfly and the cat. Those are all great photos. Good luck!
I like the sydney one with the fireworks above it. But then I'm biased. I checked my postbox this morning and I had a post card from you. Thanks heaps! It was a nice surprise. I don't think I know anyone who travel's as much as you. One day I will travel somewhere other then the place of my birth(New Zealand). Have a great day!
I couldn't choose just two...so I looked at your comments and tried to see if that helped me out any...nope! I like the white fireworks shot...lots of color in that one. Love the butterfly & Pooh shots and the sunset is great too.
Pooh seems to be winning out even without all the cats choosing him. And I think the white sydney fireworks shot too.
See I managed to pull two out for you.
Cat and sunset.
The fireworks with the brownish tone is a better photo than the red one. There's more subject and less foreground.
I'm not sure about the sunset. It's a great photo, but sunsets are kind of "used", ya know? :)
The table is more subtle, and may have a better chance of winning than the more obvious fireworks one.
First choice, Table, second fireworks, third moth.
Good luck.
The one just after the sunset, it has a bridge in it I think. That one is totally awesome.
Then after that one it's a tie between the cat, or the one with the leaves. Nope the cat is better.
I don't know what they mean by "The Heart of the Image", but I'm inclined to go with the cat and/or the window shot with the daisy. They both have a mood and photography quality that I think in a large size would really give off a "moment", that to me would define the heart of the image.
Good luck!
We are biased but we think Pooh is best. Sunset is nice too
i say the sydney opera house with the heart right beside it is perfect, and one also the butterfly. :) good luck!
They're all really good. As far as pictures go my favourite is the dock one but for the theme I would probably go with the gerber daisy and the one of the fireworks in Sydney (the first one).
Hope you win!
I had the same thought as Red about the butterfly. And I'm with Tabatha as well, although the dock image is tempting. Not that I'm not too late to vote on this. Oh well. The photos are all lovely.
