This week is FOOD. Next week is LOOKIN UP.FOOD=I think one of the best things about New Orleans is the FOOD! This is my plate of beignets covered in powdered sugar from Cafe Du Monde. All warm and yummy and they only cost a few dollars. Anybody else hungry?

pronounced ben–YAY. Beignet is cajun french for "French Donut".
In certain parts of France a beignet can incorporate meats. Stupid French.
There's even a listing on Wikipedia, with another pic from the same cafe in NO, and a recipe.

Your starving me! OMG! I've gotta go find some food. Waking up to all these pics is killing me, and all I got is my coffee.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I think I want some now...
I want one, I want one!!!!
With our french background here in Canada, many folks have beignet irons.
These are cast iron templates on an iron arm.
You dip the template (which is shaped like a flower or butterfly etc) in the batter and then dip it into the hot oil.
When the beignet is ready it drops off the iron.

Looks great!
Good photo too!
Oh oh, what a close up.... A little too close to my mouth, it kind of opens up automatically now.... *lol*
Man that takes me back to living in Louisiana. We were in Alexandria and got down for Mardi Gras a couple of times. The scrumptiousness of the food, ahh thanks for the memories.
