I went to the Fairfax County Fair this past weekend.
There's nothing like a fair. Kids screaming on the "roller coaster" that is shaped like a caterpillar and goes negative two miles per hour. "Carnies" begging you to toss some coins and win a cheesy mug (I remember when you won actual carnival glass). Eating bad-for-you carnival food (which now costs WAY too much). Eating funnel cake and cotton candy. Feeling sick after. Woo hoo!
The big name concert at the fair was Sugar Ray. (I adore Mark McGrath. He's the nicest guy in showbiz. And while he's much shorter in person than he looks on tv, he's a hottie for sure.)
May I just say that I am saddened by the fact that now when a slow song is played, instead of holding up lighters, people hold up their cell phones and turn the display light on. *Sigh*

Two words: Duran Duran. Yeah, we held our phones up for like, 30 seconds, before realizing how stupid it was. We must have been mesmerized by Simon LeButt.
I hear ya, Carmen. Used to be, you could count on open flames during the slow power ballads. Then the big hair started catching fire and now we are all "safety conscious"
I really love the ones that TALK on their phones through the whole concert being like "oh i wish you were there" or "this is our song" Oh pulleeezzzee
Sugar Ray was at the Norfolk HarborFest, too!
I still have 4 voice mails on my phone from the Robert Plant concert last June 28...not deleting 'em! Sing it, Percy!
We had a fair this weekend too. We did the farris wheel (Darly's first) and got some cotton candy...made sure to eat lunch before we went.
Didn't do the concerts, but we don't get any big names here in our little country.
Hmmmmmmmmm, that's amazing isn't it? How on earth did the cell phone take over so much. I love this entry. And you're so right...I wish that cell phones would be 'silenced' forever.
Not quite the same no. Cellphones? Looks really silly to me.... Unless it isn't of security reasons, like that they can go flaming if someone farts very heavily (haha, couldn't resist saying that ;-)
Haha. Good observation.
I saw Sugar Ray once. Opening for Matchbox 20. But I'd never admit it to anyone.
sweetie, we're just getting old... but you aren't old enough to remember real carnival glass!!!
I just did a huge catch up read, love love love the Egypt pictures. What an awesome vacation.
People hold up their cell phones ?
ROTFL that is just so 21st century.
I think they are taking pitures with their cellphones, not just holding the light of them up... at least thats what I have done :)
Huh???!!! They hold up their cell phones??!! No way!!!
My bad.. I really thought all this time they were taking pictures... I am getting old.
;-)
That is pretty sad, in a pathetically funny kind of way :(
