Weekend Update with Carmen

Since I dragged you guys all kicking and screaming into my ridiculous dating drama, I thought I'd give you an update.

Previously, on Carmen Is Crazy: Our main character, also known as "the guy" had called me on Monday after our date on Saturday. Rather than getting excited, I panicked. Because I am crazy. The call actually made me worry more. Let's just get down to brass tacks. This is the closest I've come in a while to actual dating, so I'm scared S&*&less. "The guy" and I were going to the same event on Wednesday, where I didn't know how to act with him. This is a social event for single people, so I didn't want to seem clingy or needy or anything.

Well, as usual, I worried for nothing. "The guy" actually called me on Wednesday "just to say hi" which made me feel leaps and bounds better about him. And then when we were at the event, he actually acted like we were together. Impressive, in a room full of single people, don't you think? We partnered up for pool and played most of the night.

When he called Wednesday, I mentioned that I had asked my boss about leaving early from work on Thursday to see the queen. He wanted to go, so we made plans to go see the queen, and then I'd cook him dinner.

It was rainy on Thursday, so we didn't want to go downtown for the festivities until later, and ended up actually not going because we found other ways to occupy the time. (Folks! Your mind is so in the gutter!) We did manage to drag our lazy butts to the store to get food for dinner. He actually ended up doing most of the work!

We've managed to touch on some deeper issues in our conversations, and I'm still trying to figure out what's the prognosis for this whatever-it-is. I like him a lot, so we'll see how it goes. I hope I can keep my emotions in check and not get them all squashed.

So, continue your prayers and good thoughts for this. And have a great weekend!

Positive Attitudes

So I'm sure you're all wondering if he called.

The answer is yes. He called yesterday during his lunch break at work.

How did I react?

I had a panic attack. Full-blown, can't-breathe panic attack. This lasted for a good 7 hours. I even considered just giving up on this, because the feeling was so bad.

Why? I don't know. He called well within his boy-time limit. He called me from work. He called. Why wasn't I doing a jig around the room? Because I mentioned maybe making him dinner on Thursday, and he was a bit non-committal about it. But this was what I focused on.

What I SHOULD have done was be thankful to God that he called. I SHOULD have immediately felt better. It took a long time and a conversation with my best guy friend (who thought I was a bit hysterical I think) to feel better. I think I make the mistake of consulting everyone and trying to be something that I'm not and I'm just not going to do that anymore.

So keep the good thoughts going. Hope for me that dinner really happens (the last day he's off for a long stretch) We're both going to this group event (separately) on Wednesday, so pray for me that I know how to act around him.

And to keep my mind off of all this, I'm going to see the re-release of Dirty Dancing tonight.

When Will Then Be Now?

I've got some serious yen for spring. It's cold. It's windy. No snow here, but lots of cold rain. Is it April or December?

I had a dream last night where I was dating Matthew Maconoghey (I know I didn't spell his name right, and I'm too lazy to go look it up.) Why does the alarm go off right when a dream gets good? Clearly, Matthew is not on Match.com. The one guy I liked? He's said 2 times now that we should get together, and that he'll get back to me (his idea) and didn't. I'm so done with that. I have a first meet tonight and one Thursday. I'm pretty much over the whole thing.

I've also got a case of the Mondays.

McStiffy

That McStiffy comment last night on Dancing With the Stars cracked me up. I think I'll start using that in everyday jargon.

So I'm not mad at the world today, you'll be happy to know. I'm still sore as all get out, and have big circle bruises on my back, but I manged to get some zzzzs so the world looks a little less bleak.

Back to the dating. I forgot to mention that these dates were a result of online dating. I know, I know. I HATE online dating, but I'm in a new town, and I figured it wouldn't hurt. Here's what I hate about it. Men that refer to women as "ladies" in their profile (there's a proper time to use the word, but always saying "I want a lady to . . ." or "hey ladies".) I hate people that send winks - what's up with that? Write a frickin' email. I hate when guys start talking about sexual things before I even meet them. ("I could turn you on by . . .") Dude, you don't even KNOW me. I don't like the fact that these guys will email you into perpetuity. Pick up the phone, or schedule a date.

But, as I mentioned, I had a good date and a not-so-good date this past weekend. I had to send an email to the not-so-good one, because he asked me out again, but he bored me to death the first time. But I really wanted the good date to stay interested. I have patience issues, and am not a big fan of all these rules about waiting a certain number of days to call, etc. Well, he send me an instant message yesterday - I didn't have to make that first move after the date - so I'm encouraged. That's a good thing, right? (Humor me here.) But now, is the ball in my court? Oh I just DON'T KNOW. My readers, what do you think? Should I straight out ask him to dinner? Sit back and see if he contacts me again? (But I don't want him to think I'm not interested) I'm thinking about telling him that I'd really like to see him again before he leaves for work (He tells me he'll be gone all next week.) and then let him "ask" for the date. Is that too forward. Argh!

I got this book from a friend of mine about female commitment-phobia. I think I have it. I date unavailable people, I set high standards. Who knew?
