Colonial Williamsburg Trip Report

Colonial Williamsburg is part of Virginia's Historic Triangle of cities (the other two being Jamestown and Yorktown), and in my opinion is the most entertaining of the three. It's a wonderful way to enjoy some beautiful weather and take a step back into history. For the locals, it's a great place to walk the dog and ride a bike.

I did think that the ticket prices were a bit steep - $37 for a Capital City Pass, add $6 if you want to enter the Governor’s Palace and add $10 more to that if you want to make it a 2-day pass. But the ticket price includes access to the shuttle bus, the introduction movie at the Visitor’s Center called “The Patriot,” a visit to the colonial Capitol, a few museums, and access to the re-enactment programs that go on throughout the afternoon.

If you want to go, but don't want to drop that kind of coin, it's completely free to walk Duke of Gloucester Street, where you can see the exterior of all the buildings, appreciate the gardens and the Palace Green in front of the Governor's Palace. Some of the Taverns are open to the free-mongers as well. But, if you want to go inside any of the buildings, or you want to participate in any of the Revolutionary City activities, you'll need to open your wallet.

Revolutionary City programs take place in front of the Capitol and include conversations with costumed re-enactors, a "public audience" with the likes of Jefferson, Washington or Patrick Henry. Perhaps you'll catch a fife and drum performance like the video below. (And what video would be complete without idiots walking right in front of me. grrrr.)

For some photos of my day in the sun at Colonial Williamsburg, take a look at the slide show below. I love the photo of the gentleman and the lady in the beautiful blue dress!

we had idiots walk and stand in front of my view of the Drum & Fife. Grrr!
We went to buy the triangle package but the dude selling the tickets talked to us for a good 30 min trying to sell us on the package we already told him we wanted!!! If we go again, I'll buy it online and just skip the visitors center! Thanks to him we missed the Magazine cuz it closed at 4 I think.

But we did get to see lots of other stuff including going into the Governor's Palace. Very cool stuff!

you got some great shots!

Carmen I am surprised that you don't recognize where I am. I believe it's not too far from where you are (or at least in the same state)

I haven't been there in such an incredibly long time! I really NEED to go back! My kids have never been... Something tells me I couldn't talk 3 of them into at this point. Krysti would go in a heartbeat! Maybe we'll do that this summer...
