Friday Ponderings

So I was listening to one of my music choice tv channels (update: Directv went bye-bye, and they think I am paying them a cancelation fee. They are quite mistaken. Can you say hello better business bureau?) and I was really enjoying the 80s channel. After about 15 minutes, I realized I was singing along, word-for-word, note-for-note with every song. How is it that I can remember the words to "Dress You Up In My Love" (all over, all over) and Wham's "Freedom" (I don't want your freedom, I don't need to hang around) - even the rap in "Cool It Now"

Why you all comin' down on me
Tryin' to tell me what life is supposed to be
I know you're only tryin' to help me out
Trying to show me what life is really about
But this time I'm gonna make it
On my own.
Why don't you fellas just leave me alone . . .
etc. etc. etc.

Yet I can't remember to get batteries at the grocery store for 2 weeks in a row. Apparently, the musical section of my brain is much larger than the grocery list section.

I have another question for you. Why is it that when your alarm is set to go off at 6:30 a.m., and you roll over at 6:20 a.m. and see the clock, you get all excited "oooh, 10 more minutes!" and then you get the BEST SLEEP and are all surprised when the alarm goes off?

I hate it when I go to sleep right before the alarm goes off!

LOL! I think our brains are somehow wired to retain musical info better than regular stuff. That's why you remember stupid commercials with catchy jingles. And you'll remember a song you made up in college to help you remember something for a test forever.

And the alarm thing? I don't get that one.

Good luck with the TV thing. When I signed up for the price for life thing on my internet service the cancellaton fee was the furthest thing from my mind. Now that I'm getting tempted by all the other offers I'm like "dang! I'll have to pay $200 if I switch!" But you have a good reason to keep fighting.

Oh and the disappearing noise thing? It's like when you go to the doctor or dentist with a pain that goes away when you walk in the door...Murphy's law.
What I hate is every time I take my car in for a noise, none of the places ever ask for me to point out the noise. They keep the car forever and say "we can't find any noise" Then I point the noise out and they say "Oh, that noise...well that's the XYZ and it's gonna cost a fortune to fix it." Makes me think I should just live with the noises since they aren't noticable to mechanics.

This last guy said that "yeah, I should have pointed the noise out to them." And I'm like "well why doesn't your handy dandy counter person ask to hear the noise?"

Re songs, I'm the same. I can remember all the words to songs I haven't heard in about a hundred years ... yet I can't remember where I put my keys.

And the deal with the alarm clock, that happened to me yesterday. I was wide awake from 5 'til 6:30 ... fell back asleep 'til 6:45 ... and woke up exhausted.

"Freedom" and "Cool It Now" are on my iPod!

Everyday I hear a different story
People sayin' that you're no good for me...

LOL! My music section is larger too! The grocery list section is nearly non-existent!

I DO remember getting those 10 minute super sleeps -- but not in SOOOOOO long that it is but a very faint vague memory.... from back BEFORE children! Anymore, if I wake up 10 minutes before the alarm goes off - which never happens -- I wake up 2 hours before the alarm goes off! But same difference - cuz whenever it is that I wake up - I'm UP! There is no such thing as go back to sleep in MY world! Even though my kids are all grown and I don't have to get up FOR anybody! It stinks...

G'day Carmen.

Long time, no see!! I've been so busy from sun up to sun down doing household painting and draperies and all new stuff, I've not much time to visit a whole lot of friends. Now, I think I can find time to drop by and chat.

Sorry it's been so long...

I LOVE your new home. It's so cool. Nice to have a backyard, huh? And Pooh has a new friend? How cool is that?!!!

There's so much about your new home I like....I think I remember that you said you're now in Richmond? Do you like it there better?

Okay...enough being 'snoopy Hootin' Anni' ---Hope you're happy there!!!!

Then, are you kidding me? I can remember lyrics, word for word, of songs that are 50 years old or more!!! Ones I sang when I was a kid right on up to today.

Ya know, I never thought of it that way --how CAN one remember lyrics of days gone by, but forget something you use everyday, like where the car keys are?

Happy day ---I hope to see you more now that I'm done doing my spring work. At least for now. :o)

I was thinking the same thing. Complex - sometimes nonsensical lyrics come right out, yet I could never memorize important things for exams in school.

I never figured out how I can wake up at the same time every morning (even without the alarm) even though I go to bed at different times. How do I know?

I'm so jealous that you get the best sleep for the remaining few mintues after you wake up like that. I always end up feeling more tired and groggy for the rest of the day.

Share you secret, please! :)

I HATE waking up 10 min before the alarm. I end up sleeping for 2 min, looking at the clock, sleeping for 1 more, looking at the clock, sleeping get the picture.

Maybe you should set your alarm every half hour during the night so you can have this "BEST SLEEP" all night long! Just a thought...
