To quote Office Space, I had a "case of the Mondays" yesterday. I drove all the way to work to discover that my building access pass had expired. I couldn't get in the building. While this is not something that I'm all that UPSET about, it was annoying.
There are lots of stories from asshat companies around here that tell people they're laid off this way, or emails to personal accounts, etc. So I was worried uno momento. But I confirmed that it was only an expired access.
Don't you think that this warrants an email notification or something? Instead of just SURPRISE! Thank you for driving 30 minutes in traffic, now go home.
Now, I have to get about 10 signatures on umpteen forms to take back today to the office, but I still won't be able to get in because they need a few days to get a new access pass.
Seriously, no wonder we're falling behind in the global economy race.

damn so your saying u cannot even get like a temp pass to get into work?? so your off work til the forms are signed??? If thats the case, enjoy the time off!!!
I understand why you would feel a tad worried (I would too!), but now that you know everything's fine, you should just enjoy the next few days (or however long it'll take to sort out your pass) and take in a few movies, a pedicure, spend quality time with Pooh Bear and wear PJs at noon!
Thank goodness I don't have to deal with stuff like this. I'd be completely pissy 24/7.
I had a similar experience. I was asked to work a Saturday, only to find after driving the 30 miles in the early morning (did I mention it was Saturday?) that my building access pass wasn't activated to work on the weekends! Ugggh. So, not only did I lose out on the overtime pay, but it cost me money to find out the wicked truth.
Asshats are everywhere. My goofy boss(es) never thought of it. Isn't that why they're making the big money?
On one hand, that sucks. But on the other, I wouldn't mind getting sent home. Every day. As long as they still pay me. I hate work. But then, maybe that's just me.
How do you get your pass updated if they won't let you in the building to take it to the office?
I think the next time there is a "huge deadline" about which you are pressured, you should simply remind them that, since their system forbade you from doing your work for a couple of days, you feel the pressure to deliver is gone.
If they can afford to ban you for a couple of days, there should be no stress for you at work.
But, then again, I'm a cat and don't really "work." What do I know?
Ok, you must have a super important job if you can't even get into the building on a Monday morning. Couldn't someone just open the door for you?
So sorry about your pass expiring. That would be prudent to notify employees that their pass is about to expire...I guess they just don't think that's a priority.
re: the last picture. My friend Dawn is a HUGE fan of Fall and had asked me to take tons of fall leaf pictures. So we get there and EVERYTHING was green. I forgot to mention how many trees there were there. My goodness I've never seen so many trees in my life! But they were all green. So we noticed some colored leaves on the ground and I had Darly pick them up so we could get the picture. LOL totally composed, but it got the idea across.
I loved visiting your lovely state.
Couldn't a co-worker open the door for you - since they know you and all...as you wait for your pass to be renewed?
AHHHHH. The benefits of working for people who don't know you, but know everything about you.
At least you have insurance. (Sigh)
Dh had a similar situation with his computer at work...his password was about to expire and the red tape to get it renewed was crazy...and then one of the systems went down.
He was off the computer for about 3 days...which was heaven. He was able to catch up on a bunch of stuff on his desk. But then he had a back log of stuff on the computer once he was back online.
Double edge sword.
Enjoy your vacation from work, Carmen...maybe you can do some cleaning? J/K!! *s*
sorry for the Monday, hope today was better.
jeez what a hassle. but enjoy the time off... but you're right--this kind of admin bullshit is why we're behind in the global economy...
Oy vey! My daughter is going through similar crap with her bank, cuz she washed her check card! She can't get to her MONEY!!! Fun...
Geez what a pain the tush that must of been. Don't you hate the run around?
Geez, your company has tighter security than the NSA! And worse planning. Hmm.
Hopefully, you'll still get paid and can stay home eating bonbons on the couch and watching the latest steamy soap opeara. :)
sounds frustrating. I have a security card for my building but it only get's deactivated when you leave the company. How weird that yours expires. It would annoy me so much especiially because my work has like 11 floors and I need to go between them everyday and I need to use my card to get out of the lift foyer and into the workplace on every floor. i know your pain.
That's an awfully long time for it to get reactivated. Get this, our contractors have higher pass access in our buildings than the FT employees!
