dinner at 8-ish

Well, everyone wants to know how the dinner went Saturday night. I'm trying to avoid using certain words because after last weeks' posts my google ads looked like this site was dedicated to boumb chicka boumb boumb, if you know what I mean. I've tried blocking as many as I could using their filter tool, but geesh.

Dinner was supposed to be 4 men and 4 women. There ended up being three women and two men. I was PO'd! The people that were there were at least not smelly and well-dressed and very nice conversationalists. However, if I'm paying to meet 7 other people, I kind of want there to be 7 other people. How rude to RSVP to something like this and then not show up? No chemistry with the men, but I could see myself being friends with one of the young women. The dinner was in DC proper (gasp! I went INTO the CITY!) and they all just have very different citified lives (not that the suburbs aren't a big city compared to where I'm from, but still, we don't walk to bars and work and take the metro, etc.)

The food was good, but the restaurant was weird. They had live opera being performed all night. Now, I can appreciate the opera, but when I'm trying to have a conversation, it's not conducive to actually hearing what the other is saying.

So the final verdict is this. I'll be calling to complain that I should get a comp dinner for having only 5 people show up (I spent way more money on this than I really had, and it's the 'get what you pay for' principle), but other than that, it wasn't terribly bad, and I won't be dreading the next one. I also doubt that I'll be keeping in touch with any of these folks, but it certainly wasn't a waste of time. All you folks out there can keep praying that Mr. Right shows his handsome face around here. :)

I suppose the shyness, or whatever other social malady those people have takes over once it gets so close to the dinner, that they decide to blow it off. Otherwise, I have no idea why someone would RSVP and not show.

It's rude, but it's a valuable insight into their personality, and as the saying goes, you're better off without those types.

It isn't easy, but I think both of us imagined it being just a bit less torturous.

I probably would have chickened out & went AWOL, so good for you!!

Glad to hear it wasn't a total washout! But by all means, try to get a complimentary dinner out of it... the bloody cheek of the organizers! They should at least have ensured even numbers... even if it meant somebody from the office hiding their wedding band and sitting at the table for a couple of hours.

And what do you know, Mr Right could be ploughing up and down the ready-meals aisle at the supermarket as I write this...

Well, that certainly sounds interresting. You are one very brave woman. My hat is off to you (well if I had a hat or looked good in hats I would take it off to you)

What a cool idea on a way to meet people. I think you should go for it and try to get a comp dinner, it can't hurt to try, right?

Oh Carmen. What a shame even tho you say it wasn't a total loss.

I hope that mr. right is right around the corner for you soon.

Now, I came here from Chi's blog 'cause I read you 'stunt'/dare you took diving into the pool!!! Isn't life sometimes so wonderful, to live through what you did is just awesome. Or thinking about it more deeply, I would have met you through you blog either. So really glad you didn't get hurt so badly that you snapped a neck or some freakish accident like that.

Aren't kids something tho. It makes us all wonder how we survived with our stunts.

I never heard of that before - neat concept. I hope you find some fun friends and good dates. I would complain too, after all, 50% of the men expected did not show - not fair!

I'm so sorry that the other folks didn't show up.

I did one of those dating services once and the first guy that I was supposedly a perfect computer match for was like my total opposite...highschool drop out with no ambition and the personality of a slug. I sent the company a very nasty gram.

I'm glad to see you got a free dinner, but the opera would have wore on me. I guess I have to scroll down to find out what this whole dinner was about. Sounds intriguing and something I may want to set up.

Ahhh... well... this was only the first of HOW many? Perhaps the next one will be everything it should be!
The thing about Mr. Right is, you just never KNOW where he's gonna turn up! I half expected you to find him in Egypt! LOL!

At least it was a nice evening, even though Mr Right didn't walk in. I met mine while having a cup of coffee with a girlfriend...that's why I love coffee, lol!
